The Mulvey family name
According to the Book of Irish Families Great and Small, the Mulvey (aka Mitchell) family is linked with Co Leitrim.
The name is said to have been taken from O Maoil Mhicil - follower of St. Michael.
They are said to be descended from the O'Mulvihills, chiefs along with Mac Brennan in Corca Achlann on the banks of the Shannon in the barony of Roscommon, situated the Sleive Baun Mountain.
The Norman invasions led to a decline in their prominence, and by the mid 17th century they are in Co Longford, and later in Clare, Kerry, and Limerick.
I believe my family's Mulveys can be traced back to an Irishman, Michll Mulvey, who married one Margaret Roach of Cunsey in 1737 in Hawkshead, Cumbria, England.
