NEXT GENERATION

Frank Herbert BRAMHILL, (James, Samuel, Herbert) was born on January 5 1893 at 30 Eastwood Street, West Derby. He was known as Big Frank to differentiate him from a cousin, Little Frank.  Big Frank was a railway clerk who married Hilda (surname unknown) and lived at 120 Tarbock Road, Huyton. He died shortly after his eighty-first birthday on January 11, 1974, in Whiston Hospital of bronchopneumonia and cerebrovascular accident [sic] Big Frank’s records of military service during World War 1 at the Public Record Office consist of his award of the Victory Medal in 1918. His regimental number was 106321, and that he was a gunner with 212 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. 212th Bty had six 26 cwt 4.6 Howitzers and went out to the Western Front on December 6, 1916, joining 68 Heavy Artillery Group

Harold BRAMHILL, (James, Samuel, Herbert) Feb 6, 1905 - ?, was born at 3 Ridgeway Street, West Derby. He wanted to become an architect but failed Liverpool University entrance examinations; however, he became a draughtsman at Liverpool University where the professor recognised his abilities and took him into the faculty. He later became an architect in Finsbury Square, London and lived with his wife Eleanor in Bankton Down, Crawley, Sussex. US immigration records show that in 1927 Harold, 22, architect student, arrived in New York from Liverpoolaboard Aurania on April 7, 1927; his nearest relative was given as Herbert Bramhill, father, 215 Wavertree Road, Edge Hill, Liverpool.  There is no indication of the length of his stay in the States nor what he was doing there. Harold went on to design the war nemorial opposite St George’s Hall, Liverpool; he also designed an insurance block, built in London after the Second War, for which he received a fee of £ 30,000.  Harold wrote to Will Bramhill's parents in December 1977: "My wife and I were very surprised to receive your Christmas card and thank you for your seasonal good wishes. Though belated, we heartily reciprocate with our greetings for the year ahead. To your query, the answer is a decided "yes"; I am the youngest of the family who did and do reside in Liverpool and I am the only remaining male member still extant. Being too young to remember my grandparents, I have just phoned my two older sisters in Liverpool for further information. Such is scarce, paternally, my uncles were an Engine Driver, the other on the stock exchange, and grandmother was a schoolmistress. Thus, like you, my forebears are a mystery. I thank them, for all the family enjoy good health. It is fascinating to conjecture on our ancestors, though I imagine they were similar to ourselves. Should you acquire further information, I would appreciate receipt of same, and the converse will be true." Harold died in the late 1980s/early 1990s. There are Bramhills listed in Sussex who may be descendants.
