Dukinfield Bramhalls

See also Brian Lord Bramhall's site. Note that Brian and I have both taken DNA tests and we are in no way related, despite the families living 20 miles apart.
Norm Gardner of California, USA, has traced his Bramalls back to Dukinfield, Lancashire - though they did live in Liverpool for a time.
Norm's great grandparents were Joseph Bramall (born Dukinfield, Apr 24, 1844, father given as Joseph) who married Margaret Broadhurst in June 1866. Family lore has it that Joseph and Margaret moved to Liverpool where Joseph became a police officer. In the 1871 Census for Ashton Under Lyne, their son, Samuel, is recorded as having born in Ashton, but in the 1881 census, the birthplace is given as Toxteth Park.
In Ashton, Joseph continued his career and eventually became a county court bailiff.
Samuel Bramall married in 1889 in Ashton and emigrated that year to Massachusetts, USA. Norman's grandmother was Margaret Ann Bramhall, born Ashton 1877. She emigrated to Massachusetts, USA, in 1910.
Unfortunately, Norman has so far been unable to obtain either Joseph Snr's birth information, or to find a birth certificate to verify Samuel's birthplace.  He writes: "I have found other Bramhall families in Dukinfield, Cheshire, in the 1871, 1881, 1891, and 1901 England Censuses, but cannot connect them to my grandmother's family. Two of these Dukinfield families in the late 1800s are strong possibilities. If anyone is researching Bramhalls in the Dukinfield/Staleybridge/Ashton area I would be interested in comparing notes. I also have other information about my family and the other Dukinfield/Staleybridge Bramhalls. Also, I have 1920, 1920, and 1930 U. S. Census information regarding Margaret and her brothers.
