Albrow of Norfolk, London, Manchester and Leeds

Jack and Alexander are linked to the Albrows via their maternal grandmother's father HERBERT WILFRID ALBROW (1908-1980)
The boys' great uncle, Leslie Albrow, has traced his family back to Norfolk in the late 1700s with the help of various people - a big "thank you" to all of you!
The family name is believed to come from Alburgh, three miles north-east of Harleston, Norfolk - near to today's A143 road. Another, less likely, possibility is from Fleggsburgh, also known as Burgh St Margaret, between Acle and Caister.
ELEVENTH GENERATION
A Robert Alborough was christened on July 17, 1694, at St Julian's Chapel, Norwich, and married Elizabeth. It is not yet certain if he is an ancestor.
Robert and Elizabeth had four children: Robert, Arebella, Charles and Edward. The son, Robert, was born in 1723, the same year as the Robert Alborough for whom lineage is certain.
TENTH GENERATION
Robert Alborough b1723 in Norfolk.
NINTH GENERATION
JEREMIAH ALBROW , B 1743, Yelverton, Norfolk. On July 5, 1768, he married Sarah CHILVERS nee BULLY born 1734, the daughter of Francis Bully and Sarah DAVY of Burgh St Margaret, Norfolk. In 1773, Jeremiah was the victim of a robbery when Cornelius Jekyll stole a pig and five chickens from his home. The authorities found these hidden in the cabin of Jekyll’s boat, and Cornelius was transported for seven years. Jeremiah died in Reedham in February 1822. Jeremiah and Sarah had at least four children, twins Charles and Susannah b 1768, and sons Jeremiah and William (b1770) Jeremiah died in his teens.
EIGHTH GENERATION
William Albrow was born 1770 in Reedham, Norfolk, and christened at St John the Baptist's Church. He was a wherryman and publican. On Oct 8, 1793, he married Sarah THORNTON (b1772, Lowestoft). They had a total of 13 children in Reedham and, later, in Lowestoft.
SEVENTH GENERATION
JEREMIAH ALBROW b Dec 21, 1797, Reedham, Suffolk, married MARGARET COLBY in Gorleston on Nov 15, 1819; Jeremiah died May 1881 and is buried in Pakefield, Suffolk. their children included Nathaniel, b1832.
SIXTH GENERATION
NATHANIEL ALBROW (1832-1903) was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and died in Charlton, London. Nathaniel was an innkeeper bevore moving to the capital between 1871 and 1881. In 1871, he was recorded as living in Frost's Alley, Lowestoft. In 1881, he was living at 16 Prospect Place, Woolwich, and was working as a telegraph servant and cable hand for the General Post Office. By 1891, he was a gate keeper, living at 452 Woolwich Road, Charlton, London. He was in Charlton in the 1901 Census. Nathaniel was married to ELIZABETH BARKER and they had at least six children: Edgar Nathaniel , Edith Margaret, Ernest Charles, Mary Elizabeth, Thomas William and Florence Pestel.
Edith is known to have been a pianoforte teacher; she married into the Sharp family. Thos William is shown as a dockyard worker in London in 1901.
FIFTH GENERATION
Our line continues via Edgar Nathaniel born April 21, 1865, in Wangford, Bungay, Suffolk. He died on August 10, 1897 in Oldham, Lancashire. Edgar moved to London with his father, and was also a telegram worker. It would appear that Edgar's trade as a "labourer, electrical" took the family North - at a time that many homes were having electricity installed; this was between 1881 and 1891 - in the latter census he was living at 52 Chelmsford Street, Oldham. On June 14, 1886, Edgar married Elizabeth CASEMORE, b Millwall, the daughter of carpenter James CASEMORE and Elizabeth; it is likely that the Casemore family had come to London from Aston Clinton, a villege near Aylesbury, Bucks. Edgar and Elizabeth had three children, Edgar Ernest, Herbert William (1888-1979), and Jack. Edgar died in the Sept quarter of 1897, and Jack was born in the March quarter of 1898. Elizabeth Albrow remarried a Frederick MICKLEWIGHT.
We are aware of one other line from Nathaniel and Elizabeth:
Ernest Charles married Elizabeth Ann DUMACK, and then Sarah Carless READ. Ernest and Elizabeth had a son, Charles, born 1902 in Oldham, Lancs (died 1974). Charles married a Winifred McASEY, and they had a son, Francis., b 1933.
FOURTH GENERATION
Our line continues via Edgar Ernest Wilfred ALBROW, b Dec 17, 1886, in West Ham, d Nov 18, 1958. in Wortley, Leeds, Yorkshire. Edgar married Nellie STARKS on Nov 24, 1906 in Leeds. They had three children, Herbert Wilfrid ALBROW (b Aug 29, Armley, Yorks, d 1980, Wortley), Edgar William, and Gladys Edith. Edgar Ernest became director of an electrical company in Leeds.
We know of one other line from Edgar Nathaniel and Elizabeth: Herbert William ALBROW married Ethelwyn BRATTLE, and they had children Raymond ALBROW and Betty ALBROW
THIRD GENERATION
Herbert Wilfrid married Doris Mary ELVIDGE. They had two sons Malcolm and Leslie, and two daughters, Coleen and Christine. Our line continues via Coleen, who married Malcolm Morton HUDSON.
